[ Transforming Finnish Food System: Food Systemantics for Sustainable Farming ]

Role
M.A. Student Service and Strategic Designer at Aalto University

Outcome
Food Systemantics produced actionable scenarios, detailed farmer personas, and specific recommendations for ministries to improve programs and funding, supporting farmers and promoting land and livestock wellness in Finland’s food system.

Food Systemantics reframes the systemic semantics of existing resources and services to support farmers entering and exiting the occupation while enhancing the well-being of their land, crops, and livestock. Through a holistic and human-centric approach, this project addresses the challenges in the Finnish food system, bridging the gap between good intentions and effective communication.

Using a combination of desktop research, interviews, and field trips, Food Systemantics explores the entire food system from primary production to customer behavior. By showcasing actionable scenarios and building personas, this project provides recommendations to ministries for re-framing programs and funding to promote systemic actions centered around farmer and land wellness.

Food Systemantics envisions guiding a mindset transformation and creating an environment that attracts more people to farming, enhancing circularity in the occupation and positively impacting biodiversity and land wellness.
