[ Optimizing HIV Clinical Trials: Enhancing Medication Adherence and Retention ]

Role

Senior Design Researcher / Project Lead at Veranex .Inc (formally known as Worrell Inc.)

Outcome

A proof-of-concept demonstrating the application of human-centered design to optimize HIV medication adherence in clinical trials, resulting in a testable prototype for a digital medication adherence application.

This project applied human-centered design to tackle adherence and retention challenges in HIV clinical trials—two critical factors that can lead to costly failures and undermine the reliability of results. Failed trials, often due to poor adherence or participant dropout, result in significant financial and operational setbacks.

Through in-depth research with participants and prototyping, the team developed a user-friendly trial experience and an digital adherence app tailored to the lives and needs of people living with HIV. The initiative produced a proof of concept that demonstrated the effectiveness of human-centered design methodologies in improving clinical trial outcomes while building the client organization’s capacity for participant-focused innovation.
